Hachita Turquoise mined in southwestern New Mexico. The land is anchored by the Mogollon Mountains and Black Range—steep, forested high country cut by deep canyons and fed by seasonal creeks. Ponderosa pine and juniper cover the higher elevations, while lower slopes fade into scrubby grasslands and desert brush. The name Hachita comes from the Spanish term for Little Hatchet.
